# Alumni Network Relations

**TLDR:** Building meaningful connections with alumni is one of the most impactful steps a campus chapter can take. Alumni provide real-world credibility, industry exposure, and mentorship that bridges the gap between campus learning and professional expectations.

### <mark style="color:$primary;">Identifying the Right Connections</mark>

The Execom and IG Leads should collaborate to find alumni who are actively working in domains that match the chapter's Interest Groups.

* **Target Professionals:** Focus on alumni working as developers, designers, engineers, or managers in fields represented by your IGs.
* **Search Channels:** Use LinkedIn, college alumni associations, and faculty references to locate relevant individuals.
* **Relatability:** Prioritize alumni because they understand the specific culture and challenges of your campus, making their advice more actionable for students.

### <mark style="color:$primary;">Establishing the Connection</mark>

Outreach should be professional, respectful, and focused on the shared goal of student growth.

* **The Introduction:** Clearly explain the goals of the µLearn Campus Chapter and the specific activities of the IG you are representing.
* **Low-Friction Requests:** Initially invite them to contribute in simple ways, such as a short Q\&A or a virtual introductory session.
* **Personalized Approach:** Mention specific student projects or IG goals to show that you have done your research.

### <mark style="color:$primary;">Forms of Contribution</mark>

Alumni can uplift an IG through various levels of engagement:

* **Mentorship:** Suggesting learning paths, providing feedback on student projects, and conducting portfolio reviews or mock interviews.
* **Domain Sessions:** Leading hands-on workshops, guest lectures, or industry-standard workflow discussions.
* **Opportunities:** Connecting students to internship openings, micro-tasks, or professional networks.

### <mark style="color:$primary;">Maintaining the Relationship</mark>

Good relationships grow naturally over time and should not be transactional.

* **Regular Updates:** Provide short, periodic updates on IG progress or the outcomes of sessions they supported.
* **Recognition:** Publicly appreciate their involvement on campus social media handles and within the chapter.
* **Consistency:** Avoid messaging alumni only when you have a specific request; keep them integrated into the chapter's journey.

The Alumni & Industry Lead in your Execom is responsible for managing these relationships. Go to **Campus ExCom Structure** for more.
